A Paybook and Identity Card belonging to Johannes Beike, issued on 20 October 1942, constructed with a light brown cover showing the national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika (now denazified), below the eagle is the title SOLDBUCH followed by the words ZUGLEICH PERSONALAUSWEIS, includes a black-and-white photograph of Beike stapled to the inside cover, contains a total of 24 numbered pages with an additional page inserted at the end making it a total of 26 pages, the following pages contain information regarding Beike’s personal data, military service, clothing and equipment, vaccinations, military hospital stays, and payment categories, the book measures 10.3 cm (w) x 14.6 cm (h), heavy soiling and fraying, the front cover has detached from the book, and it is in overall good condition.
Footnote: Johannes Beike was born on 4 December 1915 in Sorsum, Germany. According to the Soldbuch, the highest rank he achieved was Oberwachtmeister (Master Sergeant). Beike served in the 2nd Battery of Panzer Artillery Regiment 19. In December 1942, Beike was wounded one three separate occasions, and, again in February 1943 and March 1944. Beike received a Führer Package on 6 June 1944. Beike received an Iron Cross, II Class, a Wound Badge, Black and Silver Grades, an Eastern Front Medal, General Assault Badge, and an Iron Cross, I Class.
