Footnote: The 1st U-Boot Flotilla (1. Unterseebootflottille), also knowns as the Weddigen Flotilla was the first operational U-Boot unit of the Kriegsmarine, founded on September 27, 1935 under the command of Karl Dönitz. U-9 was a coastal submarine, launched on July 30, 1935 and commissioned on August 21 of the same year with Hans-Günther Looff in command. During its 19 patrols under a series of commanders, the U-9 sank a total of 8 enemy ships for a Gross Register Tonnage (GRT) of 16,669. The soviets raised her a year later and commissioned her into the Soviet Navy as TS-16 until she was broken up on December 12, 1946.
