Germany, Heer. A Rare Camouflage Smock and Award Documents to Sniper Obergefreiter August Pamann, 33 Confirmed Kills

(Scharfschütze Tarnhemd mit Verleihungsurkunden). A rare lot of uniform accessories and award documents from the estate of Obergefreiter August Pamann, a Heer sniper recognized for 33 confirmed kills by the end of 1933. It consists of: 1. A hooded camouflage smock, constructed of a light cotton/rayon-blended cloth. The exterior is dyed in a classic Sumpftarn (Marsh Pattern) 44 mottle consisting of a base of irregular patterns of light brown and dark green with curved and blurred edges, overlaid by sporadic shapes of dark brown, and bearing dark green splinters throughout. The hood features a fully-intact elasticized camouflage netting to cover the wearer’s face. A vertical slit descends approximately one-third of the length from the neck through the chest, flanked on each side by reinforced eyelets through which is looped an original drawstring. Each sleeve features a strap with a reinforced buttonhole meeting two pressed card stock buttons for an adjustable closure. The torso is flanked on each side by a vertical flap allowing the wearer to access pockets set into an underlying uniform. It also features an integral belt consisting of a hidden drawstring set into the waistband, emanating at two points to allow the knotted closure. Fully unmarked, the smock measures approximately 64 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 56 cm, and an overall body length of 63 cm. It demonstrates only minor material fatigue and soiling consistent with age and field use, and is in an overall extremely fine condition. 2. A matching set of gloves, constructed of an identical multi-piece light cotton/rayon-blended cloth and dyed on the exterior in a Sumpftarn 44 camouflage pattern. Each glove tapers from the forearm and features an elasticized drawstring at the cuff for a secure fit with the wearer’s tunic and smock. Both unmarked, the gloves measure approximately 18 cm (w) x 39 cm (l) when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating only minor material fatigue and soiling consistent age and field use, the gloves are in an overall extremely fine condition. 3. An award document for a 1939 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of off-white paper stock with black ink, named to Pamann as a Gefreiter of 2. Kompanie, Infanterie-Regiment 431, issued at headquarters on 26 March 1942, featuring the handwritten signature of Generalleutnant Heinrich Meyer-Bürdorff (Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, 15 November 1941) in his capacity as commander of 131 Infanterie-Division, measuring 148 mm (w) x 210 mm (h), in extremely fine condition. 4.
