(Орден "Свети Александър). Instituted 25 December 1881. 1908-1918 Issue. Likely of German manufacture, in silver gilt consisting of a Cross Pattée with green enameled arms, obverse with a central red enameled applique with the name of the order in gilt Cyrillic lettering, surrounded by a ring of white enamel motto of “СЪ НАМИ БОГЪ” (“GOD WITH US”) also in gilt Cyrillic lettering, with gilt laurels at the bottom, reverse with a central white enameled applique with a gilt Cyrillic inscription of “19 ФЕВРАЛЪ 1878” (“19 FEBRUARY 1878”), the twelve o’clock arm with a suspension apparatus connecting to a gilded and enameled crown with a loop connecting to the cross’s period original sash, constructed of woven rose-red and black ribbon, marked “SILBER” (“SILVER”) on suspension ring, measuring 50.67 mm (w) x 58.89 mm (h), weighing 38.9 grams, with minor enamel wear, loss of enamels on crown, otherwise, very fine.

Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
