(Kriegsmedaille 1873). Instituted 2 December 1873. A circular, gilded bronze medal, the centre obverse presents the laurel-crowned head of Franz Joseph I facing right, circumscribed FRANZ JOSEPH I. KAIER V. ÖSTERREICH. KÖNIG V. BÖHMEN ETC. APOST. KONIG V.UNGARN (FRANZ JOSEPH I, EMPEROR OF AUSTRIA, KING OF BOHEMIA ETC. APOSTOLIC KING OF HUNGARY), the centre reverse presents the date 2. DECEMBER 1873 within a wreath of oak and laurel, measuring 36.16 mm in diameter, gilt almost entirely worn off, with a laterally-pierced loop for suspension from period original tri-fold ribbon, accompanied by original presentation case, measuring 68 mm (w) x 101 mm (l) x 17 mm (h), and in very fine condition.
