Austria, Imperial. A Red Cross Honour Medal, II Class with War Decoration, by Rudolf Souval

(Österreichisches Rotes Kreuz Ehrenzeichen II. Klasse mit Etui). Instituted 17 August 1914 by Emperor Franz Joseph I. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original tri-fold ribbon, the obverse consisting of a green enameled oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, with a central white enameled shield bearing a red enameled Geveva Cross, flanked by raised angels and above an inscription of “PATRIAE ET HUMANITATI” (“PATRIOTISM AND HUMANITY”), the reverse with a central dates “1864-1914”, the integral loop maker marked “R-S” for Rudolf Souval, Vienna, with a Vienna assay mark, measuring 36.39 mm (w) x 49.12 mm (h), weighing 26.0 grams, in near extremely fine condition.
