A British War Medal, in silver, rim impressed 177336 L. CPL. A. B. LAWSON. 87-CAN. INF., lovely patina, light wear, better than very fine.
A Victory Medal, in bronze gilt, rim impressed 177336 L. CPL. A. B. LAWSON. 87-CAN. INF., light wear, extremely fine.
Footnote: Arthur Byron Lawson was born in Chesterville, Ontario in August 1893. He was a law student prior to enlisting with the 87th battalion (Canadian Grenadier Guards) in October 1915.
His unit sailed on April 23, 1916, arriving in France on August 11th. He was appointed to Lance Corporal on October 1, 1916.
He was serving at the Somme when he suffered a gunshot wound to the right shoulder and hand, and was admitted to the No. 2. Australian General Hospital on October 24th, 1916. He sailed back to Canada via the Hospital Ship Letitia on May 13, 1917.
While in Ottawa, he was diagnosed with an inflicted shoulder on April 24, 1918. He was discharged as medically unfit. Lawson died on December 20, 1958.
