The Union Jack in the upper left corner and the main red naval cross are individual pieces, along with the four white rectangular fields, all are sewn together to form the flag. There is a white reinforcing patch sewn in the lower left corner beside the spine, the hoist sleeve in a thick white canvas and stitched to the body of the flag, with a durable cotton twine fed through it, the twine stitched to the sleeve at its entry points, with rotating metal clips at either end for line attachment. The front of the sleeve is marked \"IROQUOIS\" in white lettering and stamped \"BOAT SWAIN\" and \"4\" in red ink near the top edge. The flag measures 890 mm x 1,620 mm, exhibiting napping and scattered holes throughout, with overall soiling evident, better than fine.\n \nFootnote: This flag was brought back to Canada by a veteran of the Second World War, Lieutenant Allan Sargent Raney, Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve. The flag flew from the conning tower of HMCS Iroquois, the raised platform from which an officer can \"conn\" the vessel, as in giving directions to the helmsman. Being so high up, the tower gave the conning team good visibility of the entirety of their ship, of ocean conditions and of other vessels. HMCS Iroquois was a Tribal-class destroyer that served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War and the Korean War, named for the Iroquois First Nations. She was the first ship to bear the name and the first ship of the class to serve with the Royal Canadian Navy. HMS Iroquois was ordered on April 5, 1940, as part of the 1940 shipbuilding programme. She was laid down on September 19, 1940 by Vickers-Armstrong at Newcastle on Tyne in the United Kingdom and launched on September 23, 1941. HMCS Iroquois was originally laid down as HMCS Athabaskan, however, due to bomb damage, she and her sister ship were forced to switch names. She was commissioned into the Royal Canadian Navy at Newcastle on Tyne on November 30, 1942 but was not completed until January 30, 1943. Following her completion, HMCS Iroquois made a trip to Canada and back, suffering storm damage and requiring repairs, this taking until June 1943 at Plymouth, England. After returning to active duty, she was used as a convoy escort on Gibraltar convoys. On one such convoy, while escorting three troopships, they were attacked by three German Focke-Wulf Fw 200 aircraft on July 11, 1943, resulting in two of the troopships being sunk. HMCS Iroquois rescued 628 survivors from SS Duchess of York. That same month, an event termed an \"incident\" in official reports occurred and according to the inquiry afterwards, a large section of the ship's company refused to perform their duties. Following her return to the United Kingdom, she was assigned to escort convoys heading to the Soviet Union over the following months. In February 1944, she sailed to Halifax, Nova Scotia, to undergo a refit that would keep her out of action until June. HMCS Iroquois returned to the United Kingdom and was assigned to the 10th Destroyer Flotilla, in preparation for the Invasion of Normandy in June 1944. After D-Day, she carried out patrols of the English Channel and the Bay of Biscay. During this period, she took part in many operations, including Kinetic, the objective of which was to eliminate the German Navy (Kreigsmarine) all along the French Atlantic ports, taking part in three actions including the Battle of Audierne Bay in August 1944. HMCS Iroquois was often assigned to escort capital ships and troopships, until rejoining the Home Fleet in March 1945 at Scapa Flow, after which she escorted one more convoy to the Soviet Union and remaining part of the Home Fleet until the surrender of Nazi Germany. Following the surrender, she was part of Crown Prince Olav's return to Norway after its liberation and then sailed on to Copenhagen, Denmark, where she was an escort to German cruisers Prinz Eugen and Nürnberg until their formal surrender. HMCS Iroquois returned to Canada and began tropicalization refit, which was halted upon the surrender of Japan and was then paid off on February 22, 1946. Beginning in 1947, HMCS Iroquois underwent conversion to a destroyer escort, the first of her class to undergo the alterations. The changes involved her 4.7-inch main armanent being replaced with 4-inch guns in the \"A\" and \"B' turret positions, and in the \"X\" a twin 3-inch mount was installed and in the \"Y\" site, two Squid anti-submarine mortars were situated. Other alterations included an aluminum lattice with new radar. She emerged from her refit on June 24, 1949 and was recommissioned as a training ship. Upon the outbreak of the Korean War, HMCS Iroquois served off the Korean coast, commanded by William Landymore, serving three tours. The first tour occurred between June 12 to November 26, 1952 and it was during this tour, on October 2nd, that the ship was hit by enemy batteries, killing three and wounding ten men. These were the only Royal Canadian Navy casualties of the Korean War. Her second tour lasted a little over six months, from June 18, 1953 to January 1, 1954, while the third tour took place later that year, lasting four months, from August 22nd to December 26th. HMCS Iroquois returned to her training role and remained in that role until 1962, when she was paid off at Halifax on October 24th and laid up at Sydney, Nova Scotia. In 1966, the vessel was taken to Bilbao, Spain and broken up in September.","brand":"eMedals","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46109139304725,"sku":"C2529","price":400.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0713\/9105\/2053\/files\/s0184157.jpg?v=1692839194"},{"product_id":"a-set-of-wwi-field-binoculars-gb2108","title":"A Set Of Wwi Field Binoculars","description":"A Set of WWI Field Binoculars - A heavy set in brass, marked 88 and Verre - with fine leather, in original case of issue, functional, fine. At the age of 26, he was initiated into the (Long Sault) Tyrone Loyal Orange Lodge No. 764 in 1905. McLaughlin was given the wrist watch presented here by the Darlington Township (Ontario) Council in February 1915, while holding the rank of Major, before joining the Canadian Expeditionary Force. He signed his Attestation Paper as a Lieutenant-Colonel with the 39th Infantry Battalion, on March 24, 1915, in Port Hope, Ontario, at the of 36, naming his next-of-kin as his mother, Mrs. John McLaughlin of Tyrone, stating that he had thirteen years as an officer (six as a Lieutenant, five as a Captain, and was a Major since September 1, 1914), that he was not married and that his trade was that of Farmer. The Battalion was raised in Southeastern Ontario with mobilization headquarters at Belleville, Ontario under the authority of G.O. 86, July 1, 1915. The Battalion sailed June 24, 1915 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel J.A.V. Preston with 40 officers and 1,003 other ranks. In England, it was absorbed into the 6th Reserve Battalion. McLaughlin was later transferred to the 2nd Infantry Battalion \"Eastern Ontario Regiment\", where he became its Commanding Officer, holding the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, where he would lead his men during many battles. One such action was documented in the War Diary of the 2nd Infantry Battalion, where it presents a detailed account of the events during the conflict near Wieljte, as part of the Second Battle of Passchendaele (October 26 to November 10, 1917), with the following excerpts describing McLaughlin's participation on November 6, 1917: \"1:13 a.m. Lt. Col. McLaughlin's watch synchronized at 3rd Battalion Headquarters; 5:32 a.m. Message received from Lt. Col. McLaughlin that he requires retaliation immediately on his front as shelling is heavy, but as runner left 2nd Battalion Headquarters about 4:50 a.m. (when the shelling was intense) and the situation is no normal, no action was taken beyond verbally reporting it to Battalion Major; 7:49 a.m. Phoned through to Captain Patterson and instructed him to send two runners up to the (Lt.) Col. McLaughlin, to endeavour to get in touch with the situation; 7:58 a.m. Brigade informed re runners going forward to (Lt.) Col. McLaughlin\". It is possible that the watch being synchronized at \"1:13\" is this pocket watch. He was wounded in 1918 and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) with two bars, as published in the Supplement to the London Gazette, page 258 on January 4, 1917, the second award coming on October 10, 1918, the third award published in the Supplement to the London Gazette, page 6793, on June 3, 1919. He was Mentioned in Despatches (MID) four times, one of which was appeared in the Supplement to the London Gazette 30448 of Tuesday, December 25, 1917, as published on Friday, December 28, 1917, page 13571 while with the 2nd Infantry Battalion \"Eastern Ontario Regiment\". He was also a recipient of the Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG). When he returned to Canada for demobilization, McLaughlin and the 2nd Infantry Battalion were welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd, as described in the following account of the time: \"The 2nd Battalion, in command of Lieutenant-Colonel McLaughlin, D.S.O., well known in Peterborough, reached Kingston at 4 o'clock on the afternoon of 23 April 1919, disentraining at the Tete du Pont barracks, where they were welcomed by thousands of people. Headed by their own band and with a mounted escort furnished by the R.C.H.A. (Royal Canadian Horse Artillery), and a large number of war veterans in uniform, the \"Iron Second\" marched to the market square, where they were formerly welcomed by Brigadier General Victor Williams, G.O.C. The DPSS provided police mainly for guard, security, and disciplinary duties. During the Second World War and into the post-war period, the RCAF Police were known as the RCAF Service Police (RCAF SP) and police personnel were referred to as \"SPs\". After the war when the air force expanded to meet NATO commitments, the RCAF Service Police also expanded to meet the responsibilities of policing the larger and increasing number air force stations in Canada and Europe. The RCAF Service Police was formally renamed the Air Force Police (AFP) in 1955, although it was still often referred to as the \"Service Police\". Following amalgamation of the three services into the Canadian Forces in 1968, the AFP was merged with the police units of the Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Army to become simply the Military Police; under the Canadian Armed Forces Security and Intelligence Branch.\n ","brand":"eMedals","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46110130831637,"sku":"C0801","price":70.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0713\/9105\/2053\/files\/23_8d946762-7b06-4a28-a70c-e5acac7dce93.jpg?v=1692844265"},{"product_id":"a-48th-highlander-of-canada-locket-c0909","title":"A 48Th Highlander Of Canada Locket","description":"A 48th Highlander of Canada Locket - In sterling silver and enamels, marked, 21 x 27mm, very fine. Footnote: In November 1914, an advertisement was placed in the national press inviting monetary contributions to a \"Sailors \u0026amp; Soldiers Christmas Fund\", which had been created by Princess Mary, the seventeen year old daughter of King George V and Queen Mary. The purpose was to provide everyone wearing the King's uniform and serving overseas on Christmas 1914 with a gift from the nation. The response was truly overwhelming. It was decided to spend the money on an embossed brass box, based on a design by Adshead and Ramsey. The contents varied considerably: officers and men on active service, afloat or at the front received a box containing a pipe, lighter, one ounce of tobacco and twenty cigarettes; non-smokers and boys received a bullet pencil, as per the item presented here, in addition to a packet of sweets; Indian troops often got sweets and spices; while nurses were treated to chocolate. All boxes, irrespective of recipient, contained a Christmas card and a picture of HRH Princess Mary. Those which were not distributed until after Christmas were sent out with a card wishing the recipient a \"victorious new year\". When the fund finally closed in 1920, almost 200,000 British Pounds had been donated for the provision of more than two and a half million boxes with contents.","brand":"eMedals","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46110244176149,"sku":"C0922","price":65.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0713\/9105\/2053\/files\/20_4c5ef979-0ece-49c4-93ce-260b8ba2aa5a.jpg?v=1692845006"},{"product_id":"wwii-unissued-canadian-id-tag-c0946","title":"Wwii Unissued Canadian Id Tag","description":"WWII Unissued Canadian ID Tag - In sterling silver, marked, extremely fine. The exterior sidewalls are in black beaver, bound with a 44 mm band of gold oak leaf lace along the top edge and a 20 mm wide black patent leather band housing a brass buckle at the reverse along the bottom edge. The flat patent leather sunk top measures 85 mm wide x 200 mm in depth, and exhibits light crazing. The front is adorned with an extremely large gilt and silver shako plate, constructed of three pieces, illustrating the star and cross of the Order of the Bath, surmounted by the Victorian crown, measuring 115 mm x 170 mm. There are brass five petal rose cockades on either side, each firmly held in place with their original rivets and support plates on the underside, the cockades supporting a brass chain link chin strap with a black leather backer sewn in place. The visor has a black patent leather upper with a 25 mm wide raised band in gold lace embroidery, trimmed in gold bullion on either side of the band and sewn along the front edge. The shako measures 170 mm at the front not inclusive of the visor and rises to a height of 200 mm at the rear. The shako is enhanced by its period, expertly reconditioned dress plume in swan feathers, the feathers attached to a long black tab, protruding from a brass ball and multi-leafed base, the long black tab slides into a brass coupling at the front of the shako but is lacking its retaining screw. Inside, the underside of the visor is fabricated from a forest green moisture-resistant fabric, complemented by a 70 mm wide buff brown leather sweatband, exhibiting the expected wear and creasing from active use. The ends of the sweatband are glued together at the rear, exhibiting a museum code inscribed \"72.171.1a\" in white ink on the overlaying flap, establishing authentic provenance. There are limited traces of the quilted white silk lining remaining, the inner crown section now framed with a cardboard support. The shako is finished with a long cap line, the line two sliding adjustments and knots, all in silver and gold bullion, tied in the appropriate knot on the left side. All hardware appears to be original to the piece, with most of the stitching remaining intact and the exterior generally free of wear. Rare. Although it is undated, the newspaper article appears to be from late 1945, detailing the collision between two Tiger Moth aircraft, killing one pilot, Aircraftman William Arthur Heard, age 24, of Claygate, Wittlesey, Peterborough, with 2nd Aircraftman Roy Spriggs being the other pilot, age 19. Heard lost control of his aircraft after the collision, the aircraft tearing away telephone lines and crashing between two bungalows, taking away part of the roof of one and damaging the other, in Sealand, Chester. The bungalows belonged to Mr. Harold Humphreys and his father, Mr. Hugh Humpheys. Harold Humphrey's eight year old daughter was standing outside and had entered the bungalow only a second before the plane impacted the building. Once it struck the ground, it burst into flames. The fire was prevented from spreading due to the efforts of the Queensferry National Fire Service, which arrived within a few minutes after the crash, and soon joined by the Sealand and Chester National Fire Services. The pilot of the other Tiger Moth, Spriggs, was able to regain control of his aircraft and returned to Sealand Aerodrome. He had his photograph taken in front of his aircraft as it was in a hanger being repaired, which is included in this album. It was determined that an inquest would not be held into the accident. Spriggs later settled in Canada, moving to Oakville, Ontario.","brand":"eMedals","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46110960877845,"sku":"C1879","price":275.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0713\/9105\/2053\/files\/royal_air_force__534700c01b959.jpg?v=1692848665"},{"product_id":"a-canadian-memorial-set-to-joseph-george-white-passchendaele-c1922","title":"A Canadian Memorial Set To Joseph George White; Passchendaele","description":"A Canadian Memorial Set to Joseph George White; Passchendaele - Brass Framed Studio Portrait (oval-shaped, convex, colourized portrait of White in uniform, highlighted by fleshtones in the face and rich blue in the eyes, the cap badge and each of collar tabs inscribed \"19th\" (19th Infantry Battalion) in white ink, glass-covered, in a brass frame, ornate cluster leafing trim on the edges on four sides, 335 mm x 510 mm, wire on the back attached to loops on either side for wall hanging, gilt wear on the frame, part of the leafing on the bottom sprig is missing, the left sprig has separated from the frame on one end); and Individualized Rest in Peace Plaque (originally hung in his father's butcher shop in Hamilton, plaster with a brown wash, illustrating a soldier in full uniform standing at the left, his helmet in his left hand and his head bowed, a grave with a cross projecting from it in front of him and a stone cairn behind, another cross rising in the background, inscribed \"R.I.P. He signed his Attestation Paper as a Private (406840) with the 36th Infantry Battalion, on April 20, 1915 in Hamilton, at the age of 20, naming his mother as his next-of-kin, stating that he had no previous military service, that he was not married and that his trade was that of Butcher. His father had a butcher shop in Hamilton, with the young Joseph having joined him in the family business but he felt the call to serve his country and joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force. The Battalion was raised and mobilized in Hamilton, Ontario under the authority of G.O. 86, July 1, 1915. The Battalion sailed June 19, 1915 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel E.C. Ashton with a strength of 39 officers and 1,004 other ranks, arriving in England on the 28th. Two months later, White began to experience pain in his right side. He was admitted to Shorncliffe Military Hospital on September 5, 1915 and it was noted in his Medical Case Sheet upon admission, that \"About week \u0026amp; half ago (he) was taken with pain in his right side \u0026amp; felt feverish at night. No vomiting. Did not report sick till Sept. 5th \u0026amp; was sent into Hospital at once.\" He was diagnosed with Appendicitis and had the appendix removed two days later. After he was deemed okay to be transferred, he was sent to the Voluntary Aid Detachment at Ashford to recuperate on September 15th, where he was to spend the next five weeks, before being discharged on October 21st. By early December, he returned to regular service and was preparing to be transferred to the 19th Infantry Battalion Overseas. He arrived in France and was taken on strength at the Canadian Base Depot on December 8th, proceeding to his unit on the 24th and joining the 19th Infantry Battalion on the 26th. Five months later, White was appointed Acting Lance Corporal with pay on May 8, 1916. His second major health issue took place in July 1916, when he was admitted to No. 4 Canadian Field Ambulance and diagnosed with Influenza on July 22, 1916. He was transferred to No. 2 D.R.S. on the 24th, and immediately placed at No. 5 Canadian Field Ambulance on the same day. After one week, he returned to duty on August 1st. Influenza was to pay him another visit two months later, when he was admitted to No. 4 Canadian Field Ambulance on November 1, 1916 for a five day stay, rejoining his unit on the 6th. Three months after his second bout of Influenza, White was appointed Lance Corporal to completion on February 4, 1917 but reverted to Private at his own request the next day. Later that year, he was to see two additional rank promotions: Lance Corporal to completion on August 16th and Acting Corporal with pay on November 3rd. Corporal White did not live long to enjoy his new rank, as he was admitted to No. 1 Canadian Field Ambulance on November 9th, suffering from gun shot wounds to his chest and left thigh while fighting in the Ypres Salient, during the closing stages of the Second Battle of Passchendaele. He was immediately transferred to No. 10 Casualty Clearing Station the same day but died from his wounds on November 9, 1917, at the age of 22. He is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium, Grave Reference: XXII. AA. 25., the cemetery located twelve kilometres west of Ieper (Ypres). His father, Nicholas, received his 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal, as well as his Memorial Plaque and Scroll, while his mother, Caroline, received his Memorial Cross. His father honoured him by hanging the accompanying Individualized Rest in Peace Plaque in his butcher shop in Hamilton.","brand":"eMedals","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46111017009429,"sku":"C1922","price":370.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0713\/9105\/2053\/files\/a_canadian_memor_536a63c14a463.jpg?v=1692848776"},{"product_id":"wwi-26th-battalion-canadian-corps-reunion-armband-toronto-1938-c2358","title":"Wwi 26Th Battalion Canadian Corps Reunion Armband Toronto 1938","description":"WWI 26th Battalion Canadian Corps Reunion Armband Toronto 1938 -  Red wool square above a navy blue wool rectangle with the screen-printed number \"26\" in yellow, both on white wool bases and sewn upon a navy blue wool armband, inside of the armband stamped in white ink under the rectangle with the Canadian Corps Reunion Toronto 1938 insignia, 88 mm x 182 mm, ends sewn together at the rear, extremely fine.","brand":"eMedals","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46111180980501,"sku":"C2358","price":95.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0713\/9105\/2053\/files\/img_03_e7548691-88ec-4341-bef6-402c4eaf2b83.jpg?v=1692849217"},{"product_id":"a-victorian-governor-generals-foot-guards-officers-buckle-c2374","title":"A Victorian Governor General's Foot Guards Officer's Buckle","description":"A Victorian Governor General's Foot Guards Officer's Buckle - Of the highest quality production, in bronze gilt with a silver centre star, better than extremely fine.","brand":"eMedals","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46111192318229,"sku":"C2374","price":515.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0713\/9105\/2053\/files\/14_53e00f98-e6da-4de4-b64c-c712e59a778c.jpg?v=1692849245"},{"product_id":"canada-a-rare-13th-regiment-hamilton-light-infantry-officers-buckle-c2375","title":"Canada. A Scarce Pair Of First War Officer's Rubber Trench Boots","description":"A Scarce Pair of First War CEF Officer's Rubber Trench Boots - These boots are fabricated from a reddish-brown rubber and have never been re-soled, the durable heels in solid rubber, maker marked \"DOMINION RUBBER CO. LIMITED\" with the company's beaver insignia and size marked \"10\" on the sole. The underlying stitching of the boots is entirely sealed in rubber, allowing for a fully, water-tight seal. The top opening on both have 17 mm wide tie straps, each slotted at the far end for uniform attachment. The inside has two olive green embroidered pull-on straps sewn on either side, each in a herringbone pattern, both boots lined in a brownish-green felt, standing approximately 445 mm in height and measuring 95 mm x 295 mm at the base. They have experienced active wear, exhibiting the expected scuffing and contact marks, with age soiling and dried mold stains present on the lower portions, with a very small hole in the sole of the left boot . A terrific and scarce First World War collectible, in very fine condition.\n \nFootnote: These rubber boots were privately purchased by officers in the Canadian Expeditionary Force, to aid them in fighting the elements and trenches of warfare in the European theatre. Keeping the feet dry and avoiding the dreaded \"trench foot\" was a high priority. There are no Canadian Broad Arrow stamps, due to the fact that they were not \"official issue\". These boots are known to have been produced and worn by officers but are rarely, if ever, in the marketplace.","brand":"eMedals","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46111327093013,"sku":"C2476","price":450.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0713\/9105\/2053\/files\/a_scarce_pair_of_53cfd4d61d2f5.jpg?v=1692849558"},{"product_id":"a-wwi-silver-case-to-lieut-bethune-canadian-field-artillery-c2480","title":"A Wwi Silver Case To Lieut.
