Germany, Third Reich. A Pair of Badges for Military Service and Sports Proficiency

(Abzeichen). A pair of badges, including:

1. An Infantry Assault Badge, Silver Grade, constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, diagonally across the badge is a Karabiner 98k rifle with the bayonet attached and the carrying sling hanging from the rifle, the reverse with a crimped hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch emanating from a circular plate, unmarked, measuring 46.64 mm (w) x 61.98 mm (h), weighing 27.3 grams, demonstrating moderate loss of finish throughout the base metal, in very fine condition.

2. A Sturmabteilung (SA) Sports Badge, Bronze Grade, constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a circular oak leaf wreath, surrounding a central mobile swastika overlaid by a sword, the reverse with an integral hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch, maker marked “W. REDO, SAARLAUTERN”, measuring 46.32 mm (w) x 58.42 mm (h), weighing 19.3 grams, a Type III badge in near extremely fine condition.
