Was present at the assault and capture of Tootumdurrah, storming of Jhoolghur, the night attack on Baboo Koosh Ghur, attack on Khardurrah, storming of Khood Cabool Pass, affair at Tezeen, forcing the Jugdulluck Pass, reduction of Fort of Mamoo Khail, defence of Jellalabad and sorties on 14 November (Mentioned in despatches), 1 December 1841 and 11 March, 14 March and 1 April 1842, general action at Jellalabad (Mentioned in despatches for ?gallant conduct throughout the day? and for being ?the first of the party ..... to seize two of the enemey?s cannon?), the storming of the Jugdullock Heights, the general action at Tezeen and the recapture of Cabul. The 13th Regiment left India in December 1844. Despite his numerous and gallant services during the Afghan War promotion was slow and he was advanced by purchase to Captain on 9 April 1847. In the Crimea War he served from 30 June 1855, taking part in the battle of Tchemaya and the siege of Sebastopol. For his services he was awarded the Order of Medjidie 5th Class. He was awarded the Brevet of Major on 15 December 1854 and was advanced to that rank on 25 January 1856. In the Indian Mutiny he was employed in the Azimghur and Gorruckpore districts, and was actively employed in eight engagements. For his services he was mentioned in despatches, received the brevet of Lieutenant-Colonel and awarded the C.B. Promoted to Colonel on 4 September 1863 and Major-General on 23 March 1869, he commanded troops in Jamaica, 1872-77. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant-General on 21 September 1882. He was knighted, receiving the K.C.B. in 1896 and was Colonel of the Bedford Regiment, 1893-1900. Lieutenant-General Sir John William Cox died on 2 October 1901. He remained in good standing until January 29, 1846, when he was tried and imprisoned for three months, from January 30th until March 27th. He was released March 28th and resumed his rank of Private but ran afoul of the authorities twenty-two months later, once again tried and imprisoned for an additional three weeks, from January 26 to February 17, 1848. He resumed service as a Private the next day, and for the next sixty-two months, remained in good standing until April 8, 1853, when he was again tried and imprisoned for another three months, from April 9th to July 17th. He was released on July 18th, only to be tried and imprisoned a fourth time, on October 1, 1854, for an additional six weeks, being released November 14th. Higgins elected to remain in the Service in accordance with G.G.O. No. 883 of 1859 on July 20, 1859. He re-enlisted for an additional five years' service on January 17, 1861, volunteering for General Service on May 9th and elected for the Indian Pension Rules on July 27th. Higgins was promoted to Corporal on July 15, 1862. His conduct improved from his previous behavioural patterns, as he was granted a Good Conduct Badge on November 16, 1863. He returned to his old ways, as he was tried by Court Martial and once again confined in mid-May 1865 for a short period. He concluded his India service at Mhow on September 25, 1865. Higgins returned to Britain and was discharged from active service on May 1, 1866, credited with having served 21 years and 311 days. Private Drage was promoted to the rank of Corporal on December 9, 1846, a rank he would hold for the next five years, and was granted his first Good Conduct Badge on March 5, 1849. Corporal Drage was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on December 10, 1851, a rank he would hold for the next thirteen and half years. He served for two years and four months with the Army in the Eastern Mediterranean (Crimea and Turkey). Sergeant Drage was \"slightly wounded\" on July 5, 1855 during the Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth and Final Bombardments of Sebastopol.
