It features a 25 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade with a gentle curvature and Bowie-style tip. A narrow fuller runs the majority of the length of the top edge of each side of the blade, which also retains factory-original sharpening to both the tip and lower edge. The reverse ricasso bears a maker’s mark of “ORIGINAL EICKHORN, SOLINGEN”, circumscribing the firm’s classic squirrel logo, with a TeNO proof mark situated just above. The obverse of the ricasso bears an issue number of “7737”. The blade sits securely within a nickel-plated non-magnetic metal alloy hilt with a hooked quillon and pommel, and with an intact blackened leather buffer pad covering the seam. The obverse of the crossguard bears a raised German national eagle clutching a TeNo insignia, while the pommel bears a raised cogwheel. Two pieces of white celluloid compose the handle grip, and are fastened in place with dual magnetic metal rivets. Accompanying the hewer is its original scabbard, constructed of a black painted magnetic metal shaft with nickel-plated magnetic metal fixtures riveted to both the tip and throat. A loop emanates from the reverse of the latter for the accommodation of a frog-style hanger, which is included and consists of a silvered metal alloy spring clip which is connected to a blackened leather strap, itself fastened into a loop for belt suspension. The clip is maker marked with the logo of F.W. Assmann \u0026amp; Söhne, Lüdenscheid, while a period multi-coloured portepee is wrapped around the hanger. A functional catch within the scabbard’s throat firmly holds the hewer in place during storage. Notably, the throat is stamped with an issue number of “7737”, indicating a matching set. Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include minor running marks to the blade, some loss of nickel plating to the hilt and scabbard fixtures, loss of scabbard paint resulting in some surface oxidation, and material fatigue to the hanger.
