Footnote: LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin was a German-built and -operated, passenger-carrying, hydrogen-filled, rigid airship which operated commercially from 1928 to 1937. It was named after the German pioneer of airships, Ferdinand von Zeppelin, who was a \"Graf\" or Count in the German nobility. During its operating life, the airship made 590 flights covering more than a million miles (1.6 million km). It was designed to be operated by a crew of 36 officers and men. It was in the last five years of service, 1932 -1937, that Graf Zeppelin proved that an intercontinental commercial airship service was possible. For those five years it operated regular scheduled services during the summer season between Germany and South America. The Zeppelin Company built a large hangar in Rio de Janeiro, then Brazil's capital city, the construction of which was subsidized by the Brazilian government. Designed and assembled with parts brought from Germany, the hangar was used only nine times: four by the Graf and five by the LZ-129 Hindenburg. The Graf Zeppelin was too small and slow for the North Atlantic service, yet because of the blau gas fuel, was just capable of carrying out the South Atlantic route. The onset of regular airline service also led to a drastic reduction in the number of flights being made by the airship which, having logged almost 200 flights in 1930-31, made less than 60 in 1932.\n \n \nPrice: $","brand":"eMedals","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46110395203861,"sku":"G10186","price":275.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0713\/9105\/2053\/files\/2_ceac3275-7e1e-465b-801d-4c1f3d5e4764.jpg?v=1692846516"},{"product_id":"prussia-state-a-heer-army-ems-pickelhaube-c1915-m0251-64","title":"Prussia, State. A Prussian-issue Model 1895 Artillery Enlisted personnel Pickelhaube, constructed of a boiled and blackened leather shell. The crown is topped by a circular gilded brass place, secured in place by four rivets, with a ball finial emanating from the centre. A gilded brass spine extends from the back of the plate and descends to the rim. Affixed to the peak is a brass insignia consisting of a Prussian imperial eagle clutching an orb and sceptre, overlaid by a central monogram and banner bearing an inscription of “MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND” (“WITH GOD FOR KING AND FATHERLAND”), measuring 12.5 cm (w) x 8 cm (h). The sides are flanked by brass studs which accommodate a blackened leather chinstrap, itself adjusted with dual buckles. Two downward-sloping blackened leather visors extend from the front and back, offering eye and neck protection respectively, with a brass reinforcement secured to the visor’s rim. A blackened leather liner encompasses the interior, and culminates in nine fingers, each perforated at the tip with an eyelet through which is looped an original drawstring. Three rivets are distributed around the outer circumference for the accommodation of the interior fixtures. Protruding lugs flank the sides of the shell for the addition of a brow plate, and feature a hollow interior to facilitate ventilation. A hand-painted Heer emblem has been applied to the left side of the helmet just below the lug, and measures 40 mm (w) x 58 mm (h), possibly indicating use as a postwar studio prop. The rim is fully crimped, providing a smooth edge around the skit. Clipped to the peak is an magnetic matte steel insignia in the form of a vaulted Prussian imperial eagle clutching an orb and sceptre, and overlaid across the chest by a banner bearing an inscriptions of “MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND” (“WITH GOD FOR KING AND FATHERLAND”), measuring 13 cm (w) x 10.5 cm (h). An interesting Prussian Infantry Model 1915 Pickelhaube (spiked helmet) for Enlisted ranks, constructed of a boiled and blackened leather shell. The crown is topped by a circular matte grey magnetic steel disc, fixed in position with four domed rivets, culminating in a removable spike of identical construction. A rear spine of similar metal construction extends from the back of the disc and meets a protruding blacked leather neck guard. Pinned onto the peak is a matte grey magnetic steel insignia in the form of a Prussian imperial eagle clutching an orb and sceptre, overlaid by a monogram and banner bearing an inscription of “MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND” (“WITH GOD FOR KING AND FATHERLAND”), measuring 12 cm (w) x 10 cm (h). Studs flank each side of the helmet and secure metal cockades, with the left side executed in a black and white Prussian motif, while the right side takes the form of a German imperial red, white, and black tri-colour. The studs also retain a leather chinstrap which is adjusted with dual functional magnetic metal buckles. A protruding blackened leather visor completes the exterior features, and is lined along the rim with an appropriate matte grey magnetic metal rim. The interior retains a brown leather liner which culminates in nine fingers, each perforated at the top with an eyelet through which is looped an original leather drawstring. A number of stamped and hand-painted marks are visible on the crown, including an initial shell manufacture date of “1904”, with an additional stamp of “J.E. STRECKER” surrounding a date of “1917” (presumably indicating refurbishment of the original shell with fittings consistent with the Model 1915 Pickelhaube), a unit dedication which appears to read “J.R. 93” (Infanterie-Regiment 93), other unknown codes, and an additional illegible unit attribution on the neck guard likely reflecting initials (1904) issue. The helmet measures approximately 18 cm (w) x 24.5 cm (l) x 21 cm (h) (inclusive of spike). Issues consistent with age and field wear are evident, and includes fine spidering throughout the leather shell, surface oxidation of the metal fixtures, and some fatigue of the leather accessories.
