Towards the front of the cap is a short blackened leather visor that is stitched in place, along with a rearward protective “beaver-tail” cover, and ear flaps that, when folded down, secure the helmet onto the head via a black metal clasp closure. The interior of the helmet is lined in dark brown leather, featuring a leather headliner consisting of nine chocolate-brown leather flaps featuring a hole at the tip for the drawstring. The drawstring itself is constructed of a single thick string of leather that weaves through the leather tabs, allowing the wearer to adjust the helmet. It is unmarked, besides the number “7” that is painted in red on the underside of the visor. It measures 247 mm (w) x 223 mm (h). Accompanied by a set of flayers goggles, of multi-piece construction, consisting of two glass lenses within a metal frame that are linked together via a squared loop between the goggles. Each side of the goggles is extended via brown canvas with brown faux-fur lining each eye-piece for comfort. A brown canvas strap extruding from each side of these goggles serve to fasten the goggles to the wearer’s head. A very well-preserved Motorized Troops visor cap, constructed of black wool. It features reinforced side walls fully lined on the exterior with an identical black wool cap band, and with red wool piping trimming both the top edge of the cap band and outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak is an Imperial tri-colour cockade consisting of blackened and silvered aluminum with a red wool centrepiece, measuring 23 cm in diameter. Also pinned onto the centre of the cap band is an additional cockade constructed of silvered aluminum with a pale green felt centrepiece, similarly measuring 23 mm in diameter. Completing the exterior features is a protruding vulcanfibre visor, finished in black on the obverse and in brown on the reverse. A black leather sweatband surrounds the interior, which is also fully encompassed by a pale blue oilcloth liner. The crown bears the remnants of a “DEUTSCHE INDUSTRIE” mark which is flanked by partially-legible manufacturer or retailer stamps appearing to read “PETER RABUS”. Notably, the sweatband folds down to reveal a paper label bearing a handwritten owner’s name. The cap measures approximately 25 cm (w) x 26 cm (l) x 12 cm (h). A Prussian-issue Model 1915 Kürassier Metalhelm (Metal Helmet), constructed of a magnetic steel shell. The crown is topped by a magnetic matte steel oval disc secured in position with four domed rivets. A protruding shaft emerges from the centre of the disc, perforated around the outer circumference with ventilation holes, accommodating the addition of a spike which has been lost to time. Clipped to the peak is an magnetic matte steel insignia in the form of a vaulted Prussian imperial eagle clutching an orb and sceptre, and overlaid across the chest by a banner bearing an inscriptions of “MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND” (“WITH GOD FOR KING AND FATHERLAND”), measuring 13 cm (w) x 10.5 cm (h). Magnetic metal studs flank the sides of the helmet, each retaining a magnetic metal cockade measuring 64 mm in diameter, with the left side painted in an Imperial red, white, and black tri-colour, and the right side painted in a Prussian black and white motif. The studs retain an original chinstrap which is adjusted with two brass buckles situated just below the studs. A short, curved visor emerges from the front of the helmet, while cascading “lobster tail” neck guard extends downward from the back, with structural integrity maintained by eleven domed rivets, at a near-90 degree angle in a fashion characteristic of this manufacturer. A magnetic matte reinforcement fully trims the rim to provide a smooth edge throughout. The reverse of the visor is painted in a standard dark green, while the neck guard presents in black. An original light brown leather liner encompasses the interior and culminates in nine fingers, each perforated at the top with an eyelet through which is looped an original drawstring. The crown bears a double-stamped maker’s mark of “LACHMANN, BERLIN”, while the neck guard is stamped with a mark of “54”. Issues consistent with age and field wear are evident, and includes surface oxidation throughout the exterior of the shell, some denting to the crown shaft, and material fatigue to the leather fixtures.
