Finland, Republic. An Order of the Lion of Finland, Grand Officer, by A.Tillander

(Suomen Leijonan ritarikunta). Instituted in 1942. In silver gilt and enamel, a white-enamelled cross, the obverse centerpiece bearing a rampant lion on a red enamelled field, circumscribed by a ring decorated with crossed red ribbons, marked on the suspension loop with the makers mark of A. Tillander, a silver crown hallmark denoting import between 1925-1998, and 813H silver fineness mark, hanging on a suspension loop, measures 49.5 mm (w) x 54.9mm (h), on a segment of red neck ribbon, enamels intact, extremely fine condition. 

The Star of the Order, in silver, a five point star with smooth rays and cluster of three scaled rays in between each arm, the obverse medallion featuring a superimposed gilded lion on a red enamelled field, circumscribed by a ring decorated with crossed red ribbons, the reverse with a single pin suspension, marked with the makers mark of A. Tillander, the Finnish crown silver hallmark, and 830H silver fineness mark, the star measures 79.73 mm (w) x 78.65 mm (h), weighs 59.3 grams, lovely patina, functional pin, in extremely fine condition.
