Braunschweig, Dukedom. An Order of Henry the Lion in Gold, I Class Merit Cross

(Orden Heinrich des Löwen, Verdienstkreuz, I. Klasse). Instituted 25 April 1834 by Wilhelm VIII. (1912-1918 issue). Constructed of Gold, consisting of a Latin Cross, the arms with ball finials, the obverse with an inscription of “IMMOTA FIDES” (“UNSHAKABLY FAITHFUL”), with a central medallion bearing a raised monogram of Wilhelm VIII, with a green enameled oak wreath through the quadrants, unmarked, measuring 29.95 mm (w) x 37.17 mm (h), weighing 5.9 grams, in extremely fine condition.
