Cologne Protection Police NCO's Tunic

Item #G12013

Cologne Protection Police NCO's Tunic - This tunic is fabricated from green wool and is trimmed with dark brown wool on the collar and cuffs, with green piping. It is adorned with silver bullion wire and chocolate brown embroidered shoulder boards with green wool bases, representing Meister (Senior NCO) held in place by silver gilt pebbled buttons. The collar tabs were worn by enlisted men and NCO's alike and are in silver bullion wire with green wool bases. There is a dual hook and eye closure on the collar, ensuring a snug fit at the neckline. The upper left arm has a Cologne (Koln) arm badge sewn in place, which was worn by police personnel up to the rank of Lieutenant (Leutnant). This particular badge is fabricated from green and black embroidery on a green wool base, the base matching the colour of the uniform. The front has four pockets, one on each breast which are pleated and one at the waist on both sides, which are covered by flaps with silver gilt pebbled buttons at the top. The left breast pocket has a 36 mm x 43.5 mm 1939 Wound Badge in Silver attached via two loops to the pleat, while the right breast pocket has a fine quality green cloth corded aiguillette attached to the pocket's button and the second button on the front closure, in the appropriate style. The front is completed by a vertical row of eight silver gilt pebbled buttons on the right side, facing an equal number of reinforced button holes on the left, trimmed in green piping on both open sides of the tunic. The rear of the tunic is single vented, with elongated straps on either side of the opening, again trimmed in green piping with two silver gilt buttons each. The cuffs each have two silver gilt pebbled buttons attached. The inside is lined in an olive greenish-brown cotton, with one large pocket on the breast and one slot below for a sword or bayonet at the waist, both on the left side. The sleeves are lined in white rayon with vertical stripes. There are multiple numeric stampings in black ink on the inside right breast, with a faded seal stamp below in blue ink, in addition to a maker's stamp in black ink above, the maker's name having been smudged but appears to read "Steiner & Kede G.m.b.H. KOLN". The tunic measures 450 mm across the shoulders and 810 mm in length overall. There is a tiny nip just below the right pocket and evidence of moth invasion in scattered places on the exterior. It displays a nice texture in the wool, quality workmanship, beautiful, intact stitching, very clean, in better than very fine condition.
