Bulgaria, Kingdom. An Order of St. Alexander, IV Class Officer’s Case

Instituted 25 December 1881. A presentation case for an Order of St. Alexander, IV Class Officer’s Cross, constructed of a wood frame with a faux red leather exterior, the obverse lid with a gold embossed monogram of Tsar Ferdinand I above a Bulgarian Cyrillic inscription of “Орденъ Св. Александръ” (“Order of St. Alexander”), the interior with a padded off-white satin-type lid liner, with a depressed black doeskin medal bed, opening with a bronze spring catch with exterior stud release, with a functional magnetic metal hinge, unmarked, measuring 60 mm (w) x 120 mm (l) x 24 mm (h), the spring catch is no longer functional and there is minor material fatigue to the case, otherwise in very fine condition.


This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
