Japan, Imperial. A Second War Period Japanese Battle Flag
This is a very well-preserved Second War period Japanese battle flag, constructed of two pieces of white cotton connected by a row of reinforced machine stitching, with a red sun insignia dyed in the centre, with three triangular tan-coloured leather patches sewn into one side, each stamped with a hole bearing a magnetic metal eyelet through which is looped a braided cotton string for attachment to a pole, measuring approximately 1405 mm (w) x 2200 mm (h), the cotton has yellowed with age and there are sporadic tears and patches of mothing, in otherwise good condition.
