Japan, Imperial. A Japanese Naval Officer’s White Cover Summer Uniform Visor Cap

This is a very well-preserved Second War period Imperial Japanese Navy officer’s summer uniform visor cap, constructed of dark blue wool and covered with a pull-on white summer uniform cover that secures with a single press stud at the rear. The band is covered in ribbed black cloth and an insignia consisting of a machine-embroidered gold bullion wreath with golden highlights depicting a nickel silver chrysanthemum at the peak, a cockade with a metal anchor and gold bullion, all on a black badge cloth roundel. The black patent leather chinstrap is held in place by a pair of gilded bronze naval anchor buttons, all resting on the black leather visor. The interior features a complete purple-coloured rayon liner. It has has an irregularly-shaped white cotton label with Japanese characters. The sweatband is constructed of black leather with a threaded brown bow at the inside rear. The cap measures approximately 240 mm (w) x 260 mm (h) and is in overall near very fine condition.
