Japan, Imperial. An Order of the Rising Sun, V Class Case

A presentation case for a IV Class Badge of the Order of the Rising Sun, constructed of a balsa wood frame with a black lacquered finish, the obverse lid with gilt Japanese characters, the interior with a purple satin-type lid liner, with a depressed purple doeskin medal bed, opening with a functional silvered bronze snap button and functional hinge of identical construction, unmarked, measuring 65 mm (w) x 130 mm (l) x 30 mm (h), accompanied by a period original boutonniere, measuring 12 mm in diameter, the left lid of the case demonstrates some cracking of the wood, otherwise in very fine condition.

 

This offering is a part of the "Dr. Albert Goodwin Collection", a preeminent assemblage of world Orders, Medals, and Decorations composed solely by Dr.Goodwin between 1946-1967. Dr. Goodwin had a successful career as an educator and prominent physician in New York as well as actively serving in both World Wars with the United States Medical Corps. He acted as both President and Vice-President of the Orders and Medals Society of America (OMSA) and is responsible for organizing their first convention in 1960. He maintained further membership with the American Society of Military Collectors, the International Orders Research Society, and the American Numismatic Society.
