This is a textbook of this early type of dagger. The silver plating grades near 100%, with the finish having that 60-plus year old matching patina. The pommel is the 12 - oak leaf style Type A displaying some wear to the edges and the top surfaces. The oak leaves exhibit outstanding detail and workmanship! The grip is a beautiful deep pumpkin orange color. There is age soiling to the recess areas, in addition to some very minor chipping. The cross guard is the second or last style utilized by this prestigious firm It features the eagle having the tomahawk or hatchet style beak design. The detail to the eye, beak, chest feathering and wreath are outstanding. The edges are crisp while the surfaces remain smooth. The blade is the polished variety! It is bright throughout, still having 100% cross graining. There is some very slight wear marks from removal and replacing of the blade from and back into the scabbard. The tang is the earliest initial production type having a more rectangular shape. The edges and tip are crisp. The reverse ricasso is etched with the WKC knight?s head logo, having the firm?s name and location below WKC / Solingen. The blade easily grades near mint. The large style brown leather washer is intact and is included with the dagger. The early scabbard is the finely-detailed type with hand detailed beveled bands. The thick scabbard throat overlaps the sides and is retained by one flathead side screw that is mounted on the right side and is unturned. The scabbard is perfectly straight with some slight aging marks along the edges. This piece is overall in extremely fine condition.
