An Officer's Cloth Helmet of the Somerset Light Infantry - Exterior in black cloth over cork, this helmet features a two-piece brass Victorian Somersetshire Light Infantry helmet plate on the front, with a silver insignia in the centre and a silver ribbon banner overlaying the wreath, rose cockades on either side, supporting a brass chain link chin strap backed with a black leather and corduroy strap, brass spike base affixed to the helmet with rose designs at the four points, topped by a brass spike, with a hook on the rear point, brass guards at the visor brim and along the rear spine, the rear side edges trimmed in black patent leather. Interior is lined in forest green, with a 58 mm wide brown leather sweatband, the ends stitched together at the rear, with a fine drawstring along the edge that ties at the rear, additional inner deep red silk liner stitched to the leather headband, maker stamped "L. SILBERTSON 2, Regent Place, REGENT ST. LONDON" on the white cotton dome, no size marker, measuring 180 mm x 270 mm x 260 mm in height. All hardware appears to be original to the piece, with intact stitching and the exterior free of wear. The sweatband has the expected light sweat stains, while the visor and side trims exhibit light contact. Extremely fine.
