An M15 Cuirassiers Lobster Tail Pickelhaube by Juncker

An M15 Cuirassiers Lobster Tail Pickelhaube by Juncker;  This pickelhaube has a basic three-piece construction: helmet, visor and extended rear protective neck guard. It is fabricated from a polished silvered steel, magnetic, topped by a spike with two ventilation holes and a spike mounting base with four points, held in place by four large capped rivets. The front comes with a visor designed with a turned-up lip, held in place by large capped rivets on either end. There is a three-colour cockade of Imperial Germany on the right side and a black and white cockade of Prussia on the left side, with both cockades on the large side, indicative of Cavalry. The cockades are placed on original pins, which also connect to the replacement brown leather chin strap via clips, the strap with two buckles for adjustment. The helmet plate is die-stamped silvered bronze with the Prussian eagle insignia.    The underside of the visor is painted in forest green. The rear neck guard protrudes outwards, away from the body in the traditional "lobster tail" design, held in place with eleven large capped rivets just inside the outer edge and one smaller central rivet at the rear neck line. The entire outer edge is trimmed in a rolled-around steel band, including the visor and neck guard, protecting the wearer from the raw steel edges of the helmet itself. It is size stamped "56" on the steel band on the underside of the neck guard, along with being maker stamped and dated "C.E. JUNKER 1916" on the inside of the dome. The entire inside of the helmet is painted black, other than the underside of the visor. The inside comes complete with its original supple, brown eight-panel leather liner, each panel with one hole at the tip for placement of the drawstring which has been lost to time, two panels at the rear of the liner exhibiting tears extending from their holes to their outer edges, with two others having had their ends severed from extensive wear, one of which still has the severed piece hanging loosely in place. The underside of the liner is supported by a thick, protective pressed fabric band, the ends sewn together at the rear with white threading, the band held in place with the use of four prongs, one front and back, and one on either side. All washers, nuts and bolts holding the spike mounting base in place are also original. It measures 197 mm x 280 mm x 275 mm in height and is complete. It exhibits multiple small dents on the exterior, the majority appearing between the spike mounting base and the rear neck guard. The exterior also has scattered light silvering wear and surface rust throughout, minor paint chipping on the Imperial German cockade, overall silvering loss on the Prussian eagle insignia exposing the bronze base, light wear and soiling evident in the leather of the inside liner from active use, along with the aforementioned issues with the panels, green paint chipping on the underside of the visor and black paint chipping on the underside of the dome and neck guard.
