An Early German Cross in Silver; 1957 Version

A well preserved example of an alternative de-nazified replacement version of a German Cross in Silver; multi-piece construction in silvered tombac; with a double-overlaid sunburst pattern with eight points; the center with a denazified War Merit Cross with Swords in place of the swastika (“Hakenkreuz”) with a stamped circular wreath impressed with oak leaves, ribbons and the introduction year (1941). The inner and outer sides of the wreath feature a thin red painted lined with a silver core in the middle; vertical pinback with four rivets on the reverse; measuring 64.61 mm x 64.79 mm; weighing 78.6 grams; a lightly worn example with slight loss to the silver finish of the cross; in overall extremely fine condition.
