It is engraved "Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit" (In Memory of My Service Period) inside a ribbon banner on the obverse of the blade, flanked by Army (Heer) eagle insignias at both ends, the ribbon banner framed by clusters of oak leaves, with full-length fullers on both sides.
