Footnote: Frederick William Kemp was a Mechanic in the Royal Navy at the turn of the century (c. 1900), later achieving the rank of Warrant Mechanic on October 1, 1917. Until his commission as a Warrant Mechanic, it is impossible to ascertain his early service in the First World War. Upon his commission, April 5, 1918, he was appointed to H.M.S. Achilles, an armoured cruiser, which saw service on the North American and West Indian stations. Post-War, on March 3, 1919, he was appointed to the H.M.S. Centurian, a King George V Class battleship, attached to the 2nd Battleship Squadron, Grand Fleet. Kemp was then pensioned in late 1920.
