A Spanish Royal Military Order of Saint Ferdinand in Gold 1830-1840

A Spanish Royal Military Order of Saint Ferdinand in Gold 1830-1840 - Officer; Gold and enamels, weighing 9.4 grams, unmarked, 39.2 mm x 43.7 mm, enamel repair evident on the obverse centrepiece and two arms, better than very fine.   Footnote: The Order was founded by the Cortes on August 31, 1811 and awarded for military bravery. After the return and restoration of King Ferdinand VII in 1814, all laws passed by the Cortes in his absence were revoked. It was at the suggestion of the Duke of Wellington that the Order of Saint Ferdinand be restored and renamed "Real y Militar" (Royal and Military) rather than "Nacional" (National) on January 19, 1815. These statutes were entirely revised on July 10, 1815 and remained largely in force until July 5, 1920.
