A Second War German Naval Officer's Dagger

A Second War German Naval Officer's Dagger; Measuring 418 mm, with the scabbard on, this dagger features a 252 mm nickel-plated steel blade, magnetic, with unsharpened edges, remaining bright and crisp, with a very sharp tip. The blade's reverse ricasso is unmarked, while the blade itself exhibits twin fullers on both sides. There are very faint scratches overall, common to extraction and return to the scabbard, with traces of surface wear, exhibiting a natural shine, near extremely fine. The red felt blade washer remains intact. The fittings are brass, bearing an anchor on both sides of the crossguard, with a blade release button. The ivory coloured celluloid grip is smooth, lightly contacted, complemented by seven rows of tightly wrapped twisted brass wire. The pommel exhibits the Naval eagle standing upon a wreathed swastika, gilt wear evident on the eagle on both sides and exhibiting green oxidation on the obverse, completed by an original large period aluminum wire portapee in the correct tie, exhibiting wear in places, exposing the underlying white threading, the dagger measuring 282 mm in length. The ornately-designed scabbard exhibits light contact overall, with gilt wear evident on the reverse from contact with the uniform, the finial without dents, the throat held firmly in place by two screws, the two bands displaying the traditional oak leaf design with thick dagger hanger rings, the scabbard measuring 288 mm in length. Dagger exhibits outstanding workmanship, better than very fine.
