A Miniature of Presentation Sabre to Otto von Bismarck

A miniature of presentation sabre from city solingen given to Reichskanzler sovereign Otto von Bismarck; Measuring 260 mm in length with the scabbard on, this miniature sword has a silvered steel blade, magnetic, with an etched background on both sides exposing raised lettering, inscribed "Du Schlanast um Alldeutschland ein ehernes Band. Willkommen Du ReichsSchmied im bergischen Land:" on one side and "Du Schweikresr in Wettern Germanias Behmert, Du Schufest das Reichs uns im Weltalr geehrt" on the other, the blade measuring 198 mm in length, with scattered surface wear, especially near the tip. The brass guard illustrates a winged woman wearing a picklehaube, placing a crown upon the Prussian eagle's head, the underside with an ornate feathered design and the bust of Friedrich III, the ferrule with a series of repeating chevrons, the grip with six rows of repeating oak leaves, the end of the handle with an ornately framed shield, finished with a pommel in the form of a crown, the sword measuring 250 mm in length. The silvered brass scabbard has a flat chape with a floral design, the two bands displaying shields resting upon ornate emblems, one of the two dagger hanger rings is intact, the other having been lost to time, the scabbard measuring 210 mm in length, exhibiting moderate contact marks and scuffing. Very fine.
