A Mark II 4th Canadian Infantry Battalion Helmet

British-made, steel, non-magnetic, in brownish-green, smooth finish, dark green square above a red rectangle painted on the front, the square representative of the 4th Infantry Battalion, the rectangle representative of the 1st Canadian Division. The protective edge of the helmet in a magnetic steel. Inside, steel-framed cradle supporting a blackened canvas liner with underlying cotton linen support and leather backer, mesh support, stamped "HS 20" ("HS" indicating the manufacturer, Hadfield Limited of Sheffield (1916-1919); and "20" the steel batch number) on the underside of the helmet at the back, with pressed green fabric in the dome and without rubber ring. The original leather chinstrap along with its hardware remains intact, the chinstrap size stamped "7". Helmet measures 295 mm x 305 mm x 120 mm, exhibiting moderate bubbling and contact marks on the exterior, with a tiny dent on top, mothing evident on the pressed fabric, wear and soiling present on the leather chinstrap, as worn.
