A Long Model Etched Wehrmacht Bayonet
Measuring 392 mm, with the scabbard on, this dagger features a 247 mm nickel-plated steel blade, with unsharpened edges, remaining bright and crisp, and having a dull tip. It is engraved "Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit" (In Memory of my Service Period) on the blade on one side, flanked by a helmet on the left and Army eagle insignia on the right, with full length fullers on both sides. The blade's obverse ricasso has a nick near the end of the fuller, the reverse riccaso without maker mark. It retains its crossgraining, exhibiting light wear, in addition to scratches overall, common to extraction and return to the scabbard, and a natural shine, measuring 368 mm in length, very fine. Thick black finished leather washer remains relatively supple and is intact. Crossguard with quillon and pommel exhibit light contact and gilt wear, while both plates of the black synthetic grip are firmly held in place by two rivets and central pins. Accompanied by its black metal scabbard, magnetic, with frog stud, metal locket at the blade entry end held in place by one screw, ball finial, attached to a supple black leather frog, with heavy, durable, quality stitching, lacquered finish, scabbard and frog measuring 52 mm x 410 mm, the scabbard with a dented ball finial and contact marks overall, crazing throughout on the frog and cracked on the reverse. Very fine.
