A Kriegsmarine U-Boat Service Photo Album

Leather-bound cover, with a gilt tombac Kriegsmarine breast eagle in place at the upper left and entitled "Meine Dienstzeit" (My Service) at the lower right on the front cover, inside front cover inscribed "4915/4" in pencil, the album containing thirty pages on a thick black paper stock with 103 black and white photographs, 31 of which have inscriptions in white and are dated between April and May 1944, covering a variety of subject matter, illustrating seamen and officers, in individual and group poses, in dress and field wear, some in life jackets, on and below deck aboard various u-boats, on review, at work performing various tasks aboard ship, a band on deck, a signalman, in hospital with nurses, at the docks, on the ocean, two photos with the Kriegsmarine flag flying from the stern, one illustrating a plane near the ship, another of a u-boat on a sandbank, the last two photos of a group attending a graveside memorial. The album contains seventeen pages with the photos glued in place on both sides of each page, vellum inserts between each of the pages, bound by a tri-colour string fed through two drilled holes with reinforcing eyelets and tied in a knot at the front, measuring 190 mm x 270 mm x 20 mm thick. Extremely fine.
