Additionally, it appears to have been apart for cleaning about years ago and is once again building a nice natural patina. The daggers blade is engraved "Meine Ehre heißt Treue" (Loyalty Is My Honour) on the blade's obverse with the usual in and out runner marks and scattered surface wear, incorporating semi-sharp edges and a semi-sharp tip. The reverse of the blade is etched in the handwriting of Heinrich Himmler "In herzlicher Kameradschaft H. Himmler”(In Warm Camaraderie H. Himmler) and maker marked Carl Eickhorn, Solingen with the company's squirrel insignia inside the inscribed oval on the ricasso. With strong crossgraining visable, the blade remains very fine. Nickel plated fittings on the crossguards, exhibiting very light contact and matching wear. The lower crossguard is stamped with inspection number 2; a common feature. The black ebony grip shows common wear with no significant flaws with medium contour construction. The grip does fit well into the guards however shows some room; a feature Eickhorn dagger collectors expect. The runes exhibit scattered chipping, rating fine. The eagle is the high necked type with consistent wear but with retaining fine details. The scabbard retains 60% of the anodizing and remains free of any major dents. The chape and locket are held firmly in place via two screws each, the ring attached to the locket. (Screws appear to have been tightened at some point) The chape displays modest dents and contact marks on the obverse, the end of the ball finial has a dent present on one side, the scabbard measuring 244 mm in length.
