A German Volkssturm Armband

A German Volkssturm Armband - Red and black inks screen-printed on white cotton, inscribed "DEUTSCHER VOLKSSTURM WEHRMACHT" (German People Storm Armed Forces), flanked by a right-facing spread-winged eagle standing upon a wreathed swastika on either side, the ends of the armband stitched together on the reverse, 66 mm x 210 mm, lightly soiled, better than very fine. Footnote: The Volkssturm was a German national militia during the last months of the Second World War. It was founded on Adolf Hitler's orders on October 18, 1944 and conscripted males between the ages of 16 to 60 years who were not already serving in some military unit as part of a German Home Guard. The armband was worn on the left sleeve of the uniform shirt.
