A German M44 Combat Tunic with Printed Eagle

A German M44 Combat Tunic - Fabricated from green wool, the shoulders of this blouse are adorned with slip-on rank shoulder straps, the uppers of the straps in green wool, trimmed along the outer edge with a fine patterned 8.5 mm wide strip of bluish-gray cotton, the edges of the strap trimmed on three sides in bright green, held in place via a large Army green pebbled aluminum button at the neck end, affixed to the underlying green wool securing strap, with a strip of gray nylon running from the reinforced button hole on the underside of the shoulder strap to the reinforced button hole on the securing strap. The collars are adorned with enlisted man's collar insignia in gray embroidery with forest green piping. There is a button down tab on the underside of the left collar and when released, allows the tab to be connected to a button on the underside of the right collar, ensuring a snug fit at the neckline. The front has two pockets, one on each breast, sewn to the body of the blouse, with Army green pebbled aluminum buttons at the top securing a fold over flap with reinforced button hole. Sewn in place above the right breast pocket is a rare two-tone green screen-printed eagle insignia on a cotton base. The front is completed by a vertical row of six Army green pebbled aluminum buttons on the right side, five of the buttons are maker marked "W.R." on their reverses. The third button from the bottom is a replacement,in Army green pebbled metal and maker marked "A S" on its reverse. Each button faces an equal number of reinforced button holes on the left side, while the cuffs are of the button down variety. Inside, there are two gray cotton pockets, one sewn to each breast with white plastic button closures, the gray cotton continuing up to the sleeve area and along the front opening. It has two ties, each sewn just below the sleeve openings, along with a loop sewn in place at the collar for hanging the blouse from a hook. In addition, there are two gray cotton patches sewn on either side at the rear, each with a green threaded, reinforced hole. The blouse is factory-stamped in blue ink on the reinforcing strip at the left side opening, most of which has faded with time, with only a few characters still legible. It is marked in handwritten red ink "43" in two places, upright just to the right of the reinforcing strip at the right side opening and upside down just to the left of the reinforcing strip at the left side opening. It is also marked in red ink "243" on the back of the blouse near the sleeve opening. The blouse measures 460 mm x 600 mm in length overall, exhibiting soiling in the gray cotton at the bottom of the reinforcing strip at the left side opening and on the left side interior breast pocket.
