A German Camp ID Tag for POW’s Housed at the Frontstalag 240 in Verdun (France)
A POW camp ID tag for prisoners housed in the Frontstalag in Verdun, France. The tag is crafted in zink, with the obverse stamped “Frontstalag 240” with the individual’s number filed off but partially legible as “28654” on both sides of the slotted disc; measuring 60 mm x 40 mm; very fine condition.
Footnote: The Frontstalag 240 was a German internment camp located on the outskirts of Verdun (France). It was completed in August 1940, and was used only until March 1941. It was used as a frontline internment camp where civilians were selected to be placed in work camps or death camps.
