A Document Group to Josef Hoeger SS Veterinarian - Documents and Photographs: Croatian Identification Book folded in slightly worn condition, Document to the Iron Cross 2nd Class from August 1st 1944 with Award, 24 photographs of varying size and condition.   Hoger was a Volksdeutch citizen of the NDH (the fascist Independent State of Croatia.) His Croatian passport was issued to his on June 28th, 1944 in Novi Banovci, outside of Belgrade. He volunteered for the SS at an unknown date prior to 1943. One of his photos shows him at the rank of SS Mann, one larger one which was sent to his family in February 1943 shows him at the rank of Sturmmann, and his Iron Cross document from August 1944 has him at the rank of Rottenfuhrer. His Iron Cross 2nd Class was awarded while serving with the Volunteer 14th Company SS Veterinarians, which at the date awarded was attached to 14th SS Grenadier Division under the command of Fritz Freitag, who were active in Ukraine until the end of the war.
