A Canadian Medal Group to W.J. Harpell; Algonquin Regiment

A Canadian Medal Group to W.J. Harpell; Algonquin Regiment  - 1939-1945 Star; France and Germany Star; Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Clasp; and War Medal 1939-1945. Mounted to a suspension with swing bar pinback, as worn by the veteran, original ribbons, a penitentiary bar on the France and Germany Star ribbon, dark patina on the WM, light contact, near extremely fine. Accompanied by a cased Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal 1977 and Government of Canada Retirement Medal (silver, obverse illustrating a right-facing Queen Elizabeth II framed by an open-ended wreath of maple leaves, reverse illustrating the Peace Tower of the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, inscribed "AWARDED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA FOR LONG AND EFFICIENT SERVICE" and engraved "W.J. HARPELL 1980", 57.2 mm, in its hardshelled case of issue with recessed medal bed).   Footnote: W.J. Harpell was with the Fusiliers du St. Laurent during the Second World War, earning him the two stars, CVSM with overseas clasp and WM. In his civilian life, he was an employee of the Canadian Penitentiary Service and National Parole Service, RRC Ontario. He received a Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal in 1977, although he missed the original reception at the Correctional Staff College in Ontario, where thirty-one others received their medals. Upon his retirement in 1980, he was awarded the Government of Canada Retirement Medal.
