A British War Medal to the Royal Highlanders of Canada - (414414 A.L. CPL. W. HEENIE. 13-CAN.INF.). Naming is officially impressed. Very crisp detail, polished, light contact, better than very fine. Footnote: William Heenie was born on August 28, 1894 in Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He signed his Attestation Paper on April 30, 1915 in Sydney Mines, stating that he was not married, that he had no previous military service and that his trade was that of Miner. The Battalion was raised in Quebec and Nova Scotia with mobilization headquarters at Camp Valcartier, Quebec under the authority of P.C.O. 2067, August 6, 1914. The Battalion sailed October 3, 1914 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel F.O.W. Loomis with a strength of 45 officers and 1,112 other ranks. The Battalion served in France and Belgium with the 3rd Infantry Brigade, 1st Canadian Division.
