A British War Medal to the 21st Canadian Infantry CEF - (171396 A. L. CPL. W. WHITMORE. 21-CAN.INF.). Naming is officially impressed. Contact marks, edge nicks, better than very fine.   Footnote: Walter Whitmore was born on April 15, 1887 in Norwich, England. He signed his Attestation Paper with the 83rd Infantry Battalion, on August 10, 1915, in Toronto, Ontario, at the age of 28, naming his next-of-kin as Rosa Whitmore, stating that he belonged to an Active Militia, that he was Married and that his trade was that of Street Car Conductor. The Battalion was raised and mobilized in Toronto, Ontario under the authority of G.O. 103A, August 15, 1915. The Battalion sailed April 28, 1916 with a strength of 35 officers and 1,081 other ranks under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel R. Pellant. In England, the Battalion was absorbed into the 12th Reserve Battalion. Whitmore was later transferred to the 21st Infantry Battalion in the European theatre.
