A 2nd Pattern Luftwaffe Dagger by Stocker & Co. (SMF) Solingen; Measuring 425 mm, with the scabbard on, this dagger features a 260 mm nickel-plated steel blade, magnetic, with very sharp edges, remaining bright and crisp, having a very sharp tip. The blade's reverse ricasso is maker marked SMF Solingen (Stocker & Co.) with the company's stylized king holding an upward pointing sword insignia. It retains its crossgraining, in addition to scratches overall, common to extraction and return to the scabbard, natural shine, with scattered surface wear, extremely fine. The Moroccan blue leather washer at the crossguard junction remains intact. Bright aluminum hilt fittings are nicely detailed, including the embellished pommel, eagle crossguard and quillon surfaces, with very light contact. Darker pumpkin-coloured celluloid grip with one crack by the ferrule, along with one small scuff and light contact overall, ten rows of wrap on the grip are free of interruption and in terrific shape, the dagger measuring 390 mm overall. Silvered metal scabbard measures 297 mm, magnetic, with a traditional pebbled finish, crisp ball finial, the throat retained by two mounted screws, oak leaf bands with rings, free of dents, with scattered silvering wear evident exposing the underlying metal base. Accompanied by a set of dagger hanger straps in Luftwaffe grayish blue with two rows of fine aluminum wire, black corduroy backs, each strap with an adjustable rectangular buckle with sliding adjustment, both straps with functional gilt metal spring-loaded clips, marked "D.R.G.M." (Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster) on the reverse of both clips. Near extremely fine.
