A 1906 Italian Africa Campaign Medal
A 1906 Italian Africa Campaign Medal - Second Issue, in bronze, 32mm, crisp details, near EF. Footnote: The Africa Campaigns Medal was instituted on November 3, 1894 by Royal decree and awarded to Army and Navy soldiers, natives of the colonial troops and Italian civilians who were engaged in Africa. The medal was revised in 1906 from its original 1885 issue, with a smaller font used on the reverse and no Regia Zecca maker mark. The Royal decree of October 5, 1905 modified the original medal (1894) criteria to extend it to those taking part in the 1887-1888, 1895-96 campaigns along with the 1897 one against Dervishes. The granting of the medal ceased in 1935 with the East Africa Campaigns medal.
