A 1886 Sea Gallantry Medal for Rescue  of the Schooner Betsey - Victoria, edge engraved: THOMAS EKERS WRECK OF THE “BETSY” ON THE 27TH SEPTEMBER 1886. Bronze, 58mm, several edge knocks on rim. Fine. Thomas Ekers, native of Heligoland, Coastguard commissioned boatman is confirmed for the Bronze Medal for Gallantry. In recognition of the praiseworthy services rendered in rescuing under circumstances of much risk and difficulty the crew of the schooner Betsey of Portmadoc, which had taken refuge off Helgoland in very severe weather on the night of 27 September 1886.
