1914-15 Star - Trench Raid KIA

1914-15 Star - Trench Raid KIA - (A-10048 PTE H.P. MANGAN. 2/CAN:INF:). Naming is officially impressed. Very fine. Accompanied by copies of his Attestation Paper, Service Records, Medical Records and a War Diary of Intelligence Summary. Footnote: Henry Patrick Mangan was born on July 8, 1892 in England. He signed his Attestation Paper with the 38th Battalion in Ottawa, Ontario on February 20, 1915, stating that he was married, that he had five months previous military service with the Industrial School, St. Georges, England and that his trade was that of Painter. He was taken on strength at Shorncliffe on July 4, 1915, and soon drafted by the 2nd Battalion in the French theatre, on August 25, 1915. Mangan was Killed in Action, February 8, 1916. The War Diary or Intelligence Summary documents the events of the day in the trenches near Dramoutre: "Day quiet. At night, attempted to blow up enemy's wire and raid his trenches. German trenches very heavily manned and enemy very much on the alert. Impossible to get explosives under his wire. Owing to night getting brighter forced to give up enterprise as enemy seemed to be expecting us." He is buried and remembered with honour at R.E. Farm Cemetery, near Ieper, Belgium. (COM868)
