WWII Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Officer's Cap
This fine quality peaked cap is the reinforced "stiff" top issue, with a row of blue piping along the top edge, with the body of the cap fabricated from a blue wool-cotton blend, featuring the classic high peak. It has a wide black band around its circumference, which supports the RCAF insignia at the front. The insignia is fabricated in a gold bullion and cloth combination, with the brass RCAF eagle between the crown and leafing, on a padded black wool base, giving it a three-dimensional look. The visor is also in blue, matching the rest of the cap and has a leather strap that runs across the front between the black posts on both sides, with the underside also in blue. The rear of the cap has four grommets in place, to aid in ventilation. The interior comes with a leather headband that features a reinforced cloth band stitched across the front, giving added moisture protection and grip to the leather headband below. The ends of the leather are joined together at the back and are bow-tied in place. The dome is fabricated from a red rayon with an overlaying waterproof liner, that has hardened and cracked through time but still displays the HAMILTON UNIFORM CAP COMPANY LTD, HAMILTON CANADA manufacturer's label on the liner below. The cap measures 250 mm x 260 mm x 95 mm in height, displaying results of obvious field use, with staining on the top and underside of the visor, cracking in the leather strap, plus cracking and separation of the leather headband from the body of the cap. It still maintains most of its quality Canadian-made manufacturing in its stitching and fabric, in very fine condition.
