WWII Glasgow Police Bravery Group - Defence Medal; War Medal 1939-1945; Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, ERII (INSPR. ALFRED G. HERRIES); Royal Life Saving Society Medal (bronze, engraved "G. HERRIES AUG. 1946" on the reverse, 33 mm); and Rare Corporation of City of Glasgow Bravery Medal (silver, engraved "CONSTABLE ALFRED G HERRIES, SOUTHERN DIVISION 1947" on the reverse, 32 mm). Unmounted, original ribbons, oxidation marks on the obverse of the PLSGCM, contact, near very fine. Accompanied by a 13.5 mm x 95.2 mm ribbon bar incorporating ribbons of the first three medals, with swing bar pinback, soiled, also near very fine. Footnote: In 1939, on the outbreak of Second World War, the Glasgow Police prepared and established the Air Raid Precautions Service. Many serving police officers joined the Armed Forces.
