Stag Grip Single-Etched Bayonet - Carl Eickhorn
This type of stag-gripped single-etched Eickhorn Bayonet was generally used for parade purposes. The hilt and fittings of the bayonet still have good nickel plating, and plating is nearly 100% showing just minor contact marks from wear, but no breaks in the plating surfaces. The mortise button and locks still in fine working order. The stag grip plates are in excellent conditions and have nice dark brown grains. The scabbard is a painted black, and retains about 99% of original finish, with few contact marks, but no dents; it is straight, and the ball is rounded. The blade of this short bayonet is the style with stepped end; its blade is in near mint condition with a fine nickel plated surface. The obverse of the blade is deep-etched with the remembrance motif in the center. The etching on the blade has 100% of the original frosted background; flanking both ends of the etched are oakleaf sprigs with a Army eagle clutching a mobile swastika. The reverse of the blade is plain, bright and shiny, and in mint. The ricasso is stamped with the logo of Solingen company Carl Eickhorn. A fine example of this famous maker in excellent condition.
