An Army (Heer) Dress Bayonet by Carl Eickhorn, Solingen

An Army (Heer) Dress Bayonet by Carl Eickhorn, Solingen - Measuring 380 mm, with the scabbard on, this dagger features a 250 mm nickel-plated steel blade, magnetic, with unsharpened edges, remaining relatively bright and crisp, and having a dull tip. It is engraved "Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit" (In Memory of My Service Period) inside a ribbon banner on the obverse of the blade, flanked by Army (Heer) eagle insignias at both ends, the ribbon banner framed by clusters of oak leaves, with full-length fullers on both sides. The blade's reverse ricasso is maker marked Carl Eickhorn, Solingen with the company's squirrel insignia. It exhibits scratches overall, common to extraction and return to the scabbard, and a natural shine, measuring 370 mm in length, very fine. Thick black finished leather washer remains relatively supple and is intact. Crossguard with quillon and pommel exhibit contact marks and chips in the nickel plating, while both plates of the black synthetic grip are firmly held in place by two rivets and central pins. Accompanied by its nickel-plated metal scabbard, magnetic, with frog stud, ball finial, exhibiting scattered surface wear, the scabbard measuring 260 mm in length. Attached is the supple dark brown leather frog, unmarked, with heavy, durable, quality stitching, the frog measuring 66 mm x 208 mm. Very fine. (C:41)
