A Second War Medal Group to the Destroyer HMS Lewes- 1939-1945 Star; Africa Star; Atlantic Star; War Medal 1939-1945; and Royal Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (KX.79114 E.F. TAYLOR. MECH. 1, H.M.S. PEMBROKE.). Naming is impressed on RNLSGCM. Un-mounted, original ribbons, extremely fine.   Footnote: Mechanician 1st Class Edward Frederick Taylor, Royal Navy served aboard the destroyer HMS Lewes, a recommissioned ship from the U.S. Navy, formerly the USS Conway. She had been turned over to British authorities in the land bases for destroyers exchange in August 1940. Taylor was married to Mavis Taylor of Grimsby, Lincolnshire and died on December 29, 1943, at the age of 34, while serving aboard HMS Lewes. He is buried in the Naval Allotment at Simon's Town (Dido Valley) Cemetery, Western Cape, South Africa, Grave Reference: Row R, Grave 13.
