A Japanese Merit Medal (Konjuhosho); Named with Case - Dark Blue Ribbon Merit Medal (Konjuhosho) - Silver, clasp engraved with the recipient's name, 30.3 mm, on original ribbon with hook and eye, near mint. In its hardshelled case of issue, balsa wood frame, black lacquer finish, gilt characters on the lid, recessed medal bed, light contact, case extremely fine. Footnote: The medal was established by Imperial Edict No. 349 in 1918, for award to those who contribute their private fortunes to the public welfare. It was originally awarded to philanthropists for a minimum contribution of 10,000 Yen but due to inflation, the official minimum was increased to 100,000 Yen. The medal is has no characters on the reverse, with the ribbon itself actually a very dark purple.
